Red Snapper Season Extended through October

If you’ve been thinking about planning a fishing trip this year, there has never been a better time to get on the water.

The 2026 Gulf red snapper season for federally permitted charter boats has been extended to 147 days, running from June 1 through October 26. That’s the longest federal for-hire red snapper season in years and gives anglers more opportunities than ever to target one of the Gulf Coast’s most popular fish.

More Opportunities for Gulf Anglers

For visitors planning summer vacations, family reunions, corporate outings, church trips, bachelor parties, or group fishing adventures, the extended season means more flexibility when choosing dates and a better chance of getting in on the action.

Red snapper fishing has been outstanding in recent years, with healthy populations throughout the Gulf and plenty of quality fish available on offshore reefs and wrecks. Combined with favorable regulations and a longer season, 2026 is shaping up to be one of the best years in recent memory for Gulf Coast anglers.

Amberjack Opportunities Improve

There’s more good news.

Amberjack opportunities have also improved, giving offshore anglers another exciting species to target during select portions of the season. Known for powerful runs and hard-fighting action, amberjack are often called the “reef donkey” of the Gulf and remain a favorite among experienced fishermen.
